We design, tune and install hi-fi systems for people who listen for hours. Every pair of speakers is voiced in the room it will live in.
A good system disappears. What is left is the cellist taking a breath before the first bar, and the sense that she is sitting a few metres from you.
Marlow began in a garage workshop in 2009, repairing amplifiers other shops had given up on. We still start every project with a conversation about what you listen to and where you sit.
Then we bring the equipment to you, move it around until it sounds right, and only then leave.
A driver is the part of a speaker that actually moves air, and nearly everything about its sound comes down to the material of the cone and how well the surround lets it travel.
We pick drivers with cones in brushed aluminium, woven fibre or treated paper depending on the voice we want from the cabinet. Each pair is run in for forty hours before it goes anywhere near a customer.
A study, a flat above a bakery, a home cinema in a converted garage. Same method each time: listen, move, listen again.
"They arrived at nine, left at six, and I noticed the fridge hum had gone quiet because of where they put a rug. I would not have thought of that."
"I own a small recording studio and I borrowed the desk system for a weekend. I still have it. Marlow sent an invoice with a kind note."
Sessions last ninety minutes in one of our three rooms. Bring a record or a playlist you know by heart. There is tea.
